Contractor for 340,000 sq ft logistics facility revealed

Glencar has been appointed by Firethorn Trust to deliver a 340,000 sq ft logistics/industrial unit at the Gateway 36 development in Barnsley.

The 24-acre logistics site development, being marketed as Barnsley 340, will comprise 320,000 sq ft of Grade A logistics accommodation together with 20,000 as ft of office space.

Pete Goodman, Glencar managing director Midlands and North, said: “Glencar prides itself on solid partnerships and has built its business on the basis of long-term, mutually successful relationships with our customers. We are therefore delighted to receive our third project instruction to date from Firethorn following other recent appointments in Erith and Peterborough.

“As Firethorn continue to expand their portfolio of sites and presence in the logistics real estate sector around the UK we are ready, willing and able to support that growth and fully committed to a long standing partnership.

“We look forward to getting started on this project and delivering a first class outcome to the net zero in construction benchmark specification which is rapidly becoming the new norm in the sector.”

Paul Martin, development director at Firethorn Trust, said: “As the market continues to experience pent-up demand for modern logistics space, and the region benefits from ongoing inward investment, we are confident that the Firethorn specification will unlock the full potential of the site, bringing wider economic and employee benefits into the area.

“We are very happy to once again be partnering with Glencar having seen the excellent work and innovation they are undertaking for Firethorn elsewhere at our development sites in Erith and Peterborough.”

Work on the site will start later this year and completion is due in Q2 2023.
