More than 150 homes and a community centre planned for village

Plans have been lodged for a new community centre and homes in Hemingbrough, North Yorkshire.
The application follows a seven-year campaign by the Hall for Hemingbrough Group to unlock a suitable site and obtain funding for a brand new community facility.
The site, just North of the A63 in the Selby district village, would provide around 151 new homes and is a partnership between Barratt Homes and the Hall for Hemingbrough Group.
If the plans are approved, the residential development will enable a £500,000 donation and the gift of three acres of land for the new facility. The donation will fund the first phase of the new community centre.
Phase one will include a reception area and lounge, multi-use hall, community meeting room, changing and toilet facilities, car parking and outdoor grassed areas.
Future phases will also include delivery of a central area of equipped outdoor play space, further sports provision and the potential for health facilities amongst other uses.
Of the 151 homes proposed, 37 are identified as affordable for local people.
Bob Procter, chair of the Hall for Hemingbrough Group, said: “For over seven years we have been looking for a way to deliver a new community hall for the village and we are pleased that we have now reached the significant landmark of submitting a planning application.
“Our ambition is that the new hall will act as a hub and focal point for the whole community.”
Peter Morris, from Barratt Homes, added: “This submission follows extensive consultation with the council, stakeholders, and local residents so we can offer as many benefits as possible.
“These plans will offer new homes for the village, which have been identified in the Selby Local Plan, as well as a new community facility for the people of Hemingbrough which has been campaigned for over a number of years.”
