Leisure centre closing until 2025 for £17m transformation
East Riding of Yorkshire Council says East Riding Leisure Goole will close on 17 December, in readiness for work to begin on the £17m Goole Hub project in 2024.
The Goole Town Deal will be contributing £3.372m of the total cost.
All East Riding Leisure members have already been informed of the closure date and the temporary arrangements for alternative provision. The closure is scheduled to last until mid-2025.
Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Our proposed scheme for the new Goole Hub is very exciting for the town and would provide a wonderful new facility for Goole, and for our East Riding Leisure members.
“We recognise the inconvenience that will be caused by the lengthy closure of East Riding Leisure Goole, but we promise the wait will be worth it.
“A whole range of alternative arrangements will be in place during the closure period. We will also communicate with residents and customers throughout the process.”
Once complete, the new leisure hub will feature a sports hall, health suite, library, café, pool, gym and a six-lane bowling alley.
