A NEW Travelodge has been opened in Huddersfield.

The 62-bedroom hotel has been delivered by GMI Construction and Rex Procter & Partners on the Spindlegate mixed-use development.

James Poskitt, managing director of the GMI Property Company, said: “The development was a fantastic achievement, with the construction of the Travelodge completed in record time – 27 weeks from starting on site to completion.

“The hotel was trading two days after completion which is testament to the quality of the finishes.”

Andrew Cooper, managing director of Rex Procter & Partners, said: “Both schemes involved a close working relationship to achieve completion on programme and on budget whilst satisfying the quality demands of the hotel brands.”

CONSULTANCY Indigo Planning has strengthened its Leeds office with three appointments,

simon Grundy is the firm’s new regional director while Nick Pleasant and Anna Ortega join as assistant planners.

Planning director Tim Waring said:  “Indigo has been growing successfully in Leeds since setting up in the city in 2005 as a base for advising on and securing planning permission for clients with complex and large-scale land use planning projects in West Yorkshire and the surrounding region.

“We are delighted to welcome these three new recruits who will complement the existing team and enable to expand our Leeds business even further, with more regional connections and a new service line in minerals planning.”

ADAM Key has joined Savills in Leeds as associate director in its planning team.

Adam KeyMr Key has 16 years experience in the industry and joins a team that now boasts eight planners.

He joins from DPP, where he was an associate partner, and has previously worked for Carter Jonas and DTZ.

Richard Serra, head of Savills northern planning group, said: “Adam has some excellent experience across a broad range of well known property clients and we’re looking forward to him adding even more value to the planning consultancy advice we offer.”

WYG has secured a new three-year contract as part of a £1.4bn project to provide better accommodation to thousands of soldiers.

The Leeds-based consultancy will work across four garrisons checking that new buildings constructed under the programme meet the highest standards.

The agreements represents the continuation of a contract first awarded in 2006.

Steve Barrett, associate director for management services at WYG, said: “Following the successful completion of five years we are extremely pleased to have been awarded by open tender a further three years in the role demonstrating that we have been providing and will continue to provide technical excellence and value for money.

“The work that we do is vital for the safety and comfort of the soldiers who will eventually use the accommodation.  It is imperative that before a building is handed over for use that it meets all regulatory and safety standards and complies with the required quality standards from ensuring that it complies with building regulations to checking that all finishes are of a high quality.”

PROPERTY developer Conroy Brook has been named as a UK winner for its Holme Valley Court complex in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

The development was named the most outstanding retirement apartment development in the UK 2011 at the UK Over 50’s Housing Awards.

Pat Mead, sales executive for the development, said: “We are all incredibly proud to have received this fantastic accolade for Holme Valley Court.”
