Country park gets major investment

HOLIDAY home park owner Maguires Country Parks has begun a major £350,000 investment in Swainby Country Park in North Yorkshire.

The investment package will create four new jobs by turning part of the 11.5 acre site into a five star holiday park.

Swainby Country Park is set at the foot of the Cleveland Hills and has views of the North York Moors National Park.

However, since its launch before the Second World War it has suffered from a lack of investment.

As part of the investment, Swainby Country Park has a new electric supply, piped gas, and a new main drainage system.

Investment is also being made in two grade two-listed buildings on the edge of the park.

It is hoped that people wanting to purchase new and pre-owned holiday homes will visit the revitalised park.

The site was purchased by the Maguire family in July 2008 as the fourth secluded holiday home location in their portfolio of parks.

Billy Maguire said: “Swainby is a beautiful village and Swainby Country Park is in the perfect location, it’s like being in an oil painting.

“We did not buy the site to transform it and sell it at a profit; we knew it was already a beautiful place, we just needed to enhance it by updating the facilities. It is in the family now and we love it so much that we will probably live there one day.

The investment will give the holiday park the boost it needs.

“This park will be aimed at more mature people or young families wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

We want to target people who enjoy a quiet glass of wine with a family barbeque or spend their spare time walking or relaxing.

“It is a really beautiful place and we are proud to have it in the family.”

Maguires also owns Newbus Grange Country Park in County Durham, Low Carrs Residential Park in Durham, and Ord House Country Park in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
