Village sold to investment firm

A YORKSHIRE village has been sold to an Edinburgh-based property company for an undisclosed sum.

The Askham Richard Estate, on the outskirts of York, was sold by the family of George Naden who have controlled the collection of properties for more than 40 years.

The estate includes 14 let residential properties, two farms and more than 300 acres of open land in all generating rental income of £155,000.

Law firm Hill Dickinson advised Mr Naden’s eldest daughter who was selling the estate.

Jonathan Dover, from Hill Dickinson, said: “The sale of the Askham Richard Estate has been a rare case for Hill Dickinson, and was as much of a unique opportunity now as it was 40 years ago.

“The sale of a village is undoubtedly sensitive, but we believe the deal reached has ensured the best possible outcome for the seller’s investment, residents and farmers on Askham Richard Estate.”

George Naden bought Askham Richard in 1971 and it was inherited by his two daughters after his death in 1997.

Meller Braggins and Carter Jones were joint agents on the sale.
