Building Briefs: William Anelay, LSH, Dacres, Auction House

BUILDING restoration expert William Anelay has been recognised for its work on the Ripon Cathedral Narthex Project by picking up two awards.

The project, a privately funded scheme to reinvigorate the West Front entrance to the cathedral, resulted in Anelay collecting the Price Flagon for best restoration project and the Craftsmanship Shield for its outstanding use of craftsmanship skills at the Ripon Civic Society Awrds.

The three month programme of works, which concluded earlier this year, involved the installation of new glass porches, with engravings by artist Sally Scott, depicting scenes from the life of St Wilfrid, founder of Ripon Cathedral.

Chairman Charles Anelay said: “It’s wonderful to be recognised for our contribution to restoring and preserving our architectural heritage and, especially so, at such a well recognised and widely visited venue as Ripon Cathedral.”

DACRE Son & Hartley directors David Phillip is celebrating 35 years with the estate agency.

Mr Phillip, who was born in Skipton, joined the firm straight from school.

He said: “During the recession of 2008 I returned to Otley and this is where I still operate from today. Having worked at Dacres for 35 years I have seen the firm sold into corporate ownership and then helped to buy it back during a very uncertain economic climate.

“To be a part of a business that has been established for almost 200 years and working within a large team of extremely loyal staff is a real privilege. I remain at the ‘coal face’ of the business looking after customers and staff to ensure that maximum levels of services are provided.”

TWO lock side cottages at Apperley Bridge, near Bradford, have been sold for £202,000 by Auction House West Yorkshire, considerably above their guide price of £160,000 plus.

A three bedroom semi-detached house in Dewsbury sold for £101,500.

Auctioneer David Pank said: “All these sales show there is continuing interest for properties with potential, despite the depressed economic outlook for the country. And in the case of the property in Dewsbury more than 50 people viewed the house ahead of the auction.”

The next sale takes place at Elland Road on November 28.
