Belle Vue Square project moves forward with multi-million pound scheme

RETIREMENT apartments are to add a new dimension to Rushbond group’s Belle Vue Square scheme in Skipton after the sale of land to a specialist developer.

Part of a 0.69 acre site at Belle Vue Square has been sold to developer of retirement apartments McCarthy & Stone, which will start construction work on its multi-million pound  ‘later living’ scheme this summer.

McCarthy & Stone, which acquired the site with planning permission for a significant but undisclosed sum, will develop 21 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom apartments.

Leeds-based property development and investment company Rushbond has re-developed the main site of Belle Vue Square, an historic former textile factory built in 1828, in a £25m scheme to create more than 150,000 sq ft of commercial, leisure and residential space. It has already attracted Craven District Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Medac Healthcare and Holt Doctors.

Managing director, Jonathan Maud, said: “We’re pleased to announce the sale of this land at Belle Vue Square to McCarthy & Stone. The deal represents an important new stage in the redevelopment of this attractive historic textile site which is creating new office space and homes all within walking distance of Skipton town centre and its many amenities.”

Regional land director covering McCarthy & Stone’s northern region, Chris Watson, said: “Our development at Belle Vue Square scheme has already generated positive local feedback. We are delighted that it will also help generate fluidity in the local housing market as owners vacate three or four bedroomed homes and sell them in order to take advantage of our scheme.”

Rushbond has also sold part of the site to Ilkley’s Burley Developments for a proposed mixed-use retail and residential scheme which is to go before Craven District Council planners this summer.
