Global business opens new multi-million pound HQ

THE James Durrans Group’s multi-million pound headquarters have opened as the South Yorkshire firm celebrates 150 years in business.
The family-owned global company supplies carbon-based products to the world’s manufacturing industries. Its new headquarters – a 11,200 sq ft, four-storey, office building – have been developed on the same site in Penistone where the firm was founded in 1863 and overlooks the River Don.
Chris Durrans, managing director at the James Durrans Group, said: “The company boasts a rich and proud history in Yorkshire and we are delighted that we have made a real statement of intent about where our future lies with this iconic building on the site where it all began.
“I would often return from visits to our overseas operations and wish that our headquarters reflected the company’s success, so that was a driving factor behind this development.
“Additionally, we needed a fit-for-purpose building that would bring all our staff under one roof and create a modern, enjoyable working environment.
“As we are in a conservation area, we thought hard about creating a design that will stand the test of time and really add to the area.”
Durrans operates from four factories in the UK, as well as plants in Germany, China, South Africa, India and France. Customers include steelmakers, foundries, glass, refractory and furnace manufacturers.
Sheffield-based contractor and developer JF Finnegan completed the work at the new site.
Durrans also supplies the road, rail and aerospace sectors, power industry, oil and gas producers, telecommunications and utilities companies and chemicals firms. Products include refractory coatings, milled coal dust, anthracite, metallurgical and petroleum cokes.
