Stage set for growth for Newsubstance

A YORKSHIRE business which has worked with world famous artists such as Beyonce, Take That and Mumford & Sons is confident that as the economy picks up it can explore new opportunities to cement its place in the market.

Specialising in show design and bespoke performance structures, Leeds-based Newsubstance works with a range of clients from brands and bands to city authorities and governments, high net worth individuals to global corporations.

It recently created the lighting solution for Elbow on the band’s recent UK arena tour.

The 24 large-scale, industrial looking light fittings were flown from two lengths of truss – 12 on each – high above the arena floor.

The company has also worked on the Bestival closing ceremony and the Dubai world cup.

Founded in 2004 by creative director Patrick O’Mahony, the £1.2m turnover firm, which has six staff, now has its sights set on working with more bands and exploring new markets.

Project director Mungo Denison said: “We’re starting to see the green shoots in the economy and the spend is there.

“We want to establish our place in the market and develop our offering, but we don’t plan to grow at the moment.

“There are new places to explore and we see opportunities in the large scale ceremonies and are looking to develop the band opportunities.”
