Plans for ultra-fast broadband project move forward

PLANS for the creation of ultra-fast broadband services in York have moved forward.

Earlier this year, Sky and TalkTalk joined forces with digital infrastructure provider CityFibre to create a new company which will build a pure fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network supplying broadband speeds of 1 Gigabit (1,000 Mbps) direct to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in York.

Today, CityFibre Infrastructure Holdings, a designer, builder, owner, and operator of fibre optic infrastructure in UK towns and cities, has announced that Fujitsu has been chosen as the build partner for the first phase of deployment of the FTTP network.

Network planning is well advanced and the first technology and construction activities aimed at optimising deployment speed, cost and quality are starting in late October.

Fujitsu will undertake all of the build activities including detailed network planning, civil and network construction, testing and interconnection of the FTTP network.

CityFibre enables gigabit connectivity through designing, building, owning, and operating fibre optic network infrastructure. The company owns and operates 490 route kilometres of local access networks serving over 800 customer locations in 57 towns and cities in the UK, including York, Sheffield and Doncaster.
