Promising future ahead for Yorkshire construction firm

HEWLETT Construction has reported a “solid” performance during 2014, as the firm reports an encouraging and optimistic outlook for 2015.
The Leeds-headquartered civil engineering company saw pre-tax profit of £795,000 on turnover reaching £23.3m for the half year to the end of September. The business has also further reduced the cost of its overheads (from 20% to 9%) and has forecast a £43.5m turnover (year to March 31 2015) with a pre-tax profit of £1.05m.
Recent contract wins for the firm include a £7.5m infrastructure project for Evans Property Group, a £7.1m contract for Barratt Homes and a £3.4m scheme with Centro.
Managing director Alan Cooper said: “We took advantage of the ‘green shoots’ of recovery coming last year and decided it was time to look at how we were going to grow the business while trying to control the overheads and maximise turnover.
“In under two years the company has delivered continued profitability with all the signs for a promising future ahead. The aim now is for a modest level of expansion as there’s still little room for complacency about the economy. However the continuing levels of new business offer much encouragement and will give the business the stable platform it needs to continue to grow.”
Hewlett Construction also has regional offices in Corby and Perth. The company has a workforce of more than 350, and its own construction plant fleet. Hewlett has expanded its operations in to the Middle East and has an office in Muscat, Oman. The company’s UK operating divisions incorporate: Defence, Power and Process, Renewables, Highways, Rail and Residential Infrastructure.
