Tour de Yorkshire 2016 set for extension

THE Tour de Yorkshire cycle race could be extended if chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Gary Verity, gets his way.

According to the BBC he said he hoped to extend the race by an extra day, and increase the focus on women’s racing.

The event would be held over four days instead of three, after the event attracted mroe than 1.2m people at its debut this year.

It is already set to be held during the first weekend of May, and the start and finish points of the race are to be revealed in September.

The race was set up as a legacy event in the wake of last summer’s successful Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire, which attracted more than 2.5 million people to the county and generated about £100m for the regional economy.
