Budget retailer launches plans to create 40 jobs

PROPOSALS have been launched for a 26,500 sq ft Lidl store in Garforth.

A public consultation has been launched concerning the Aberford Road plans, which include the budget retailer, as well as two other retail units and a family pub.

The Lidl store itself will create 40 jobs, with more at the other retail units and pub, if plans are agreed.

In June 2015, Leeds City Council granted outline planning permission for a supermarket on the site.

The planning application for the site will be submitted by the end of January, with a decision expected in the spring. If approved, the store will be delivered by mid-2017.

James Hanna, senior consultant at Lidl, said: “Our exciting plans for Garforth will bring much-needed shopping choice to the town and will create important new jobs for the local community.

“The Lidl store will have our new and improved design for a fantastic shopping experience – something we are sure residents in Garforth will enjoy.

“We’re keen to press on with our plans as the site is in desperate need of regeneration, but first we want to talk to local residents and businesses about our plans. We’d encourage anyone interested to attend the exhibition to discuss the proposals with our project team.”

Garforth residents have been invited to a consultation on Friday 15 January.
