Step forward for £500m Hull regeneration project

A MAJOR Hull regeneration programme has taken its next steps forward as Keepmoat kickstarts the scheme with a residential build on Portobello Street.

The housebuilder is developing 142 new homes on the site, as building works at its Ganstead Grove site near completion.

93 homes will be for rent for Hull City Council and a further 49 on behalf of leading housing association Home Group.

The £500m Hull City Wide Regeneration project aims to deliver 4,000 new homes across the city.

Keepmoat, Strata, Home Group and Priority Space are leading the 13-year programme.

Councillor John Black, the city council’s portfolio holder for Housing and Infrastructure, said: “It’s great to see the plans rise from the drawing boards across the area, from the Integrated Care Centre to new council housing, we are creating exciting new opportunities for jobs and living.

“We are one of a minority of councils who continue in this difficult climate to secure funding and develop successful partnerships in order to build new affordable homes for rent.”

Brian Ham, executive director of Development at Home Group, said: “As an organisation, our priority is to create successful, desirable and sustainable places where communities can thrive and grow.

“We are delighted to be working on such a large project with Hull City Council, Keepmoat and Strata that will deliver so many quality affordable rented homes to the area.”

Martin Smithurst, regional managing director for Keepmoat, said: “The vision and commitment of Hull City Council is remarkable and this is a fantastic project to be involved in. Keepmoat has a proven track record in Hull and we are delighted to be supporting the council to transform some of the run down areas of this great city.

“Our commitment to Hull goes further than the delivery of much-needed new homes though. We have pledged to invest in local labour, while bringing employment and training opportunities for local people. The Hull City Wide scheme isn’t just about delivering much-needed new homes. It’s about creating a vibrant new community with opportunities to thrive.”
