Green light for flats next to railway station

How the scheme will look

Plans for a student accommodation block next to Leicester’s railway station have been given the nod by city planners.

Some 37 studio flats will be built across seven storeys on Conduit Street after the City Council’s planning committee approved the scheme.

The scheme will be built by London-based Aronex Developments.

It has been designed by 1618 Architects which originally drew up designs for 52 flats.

A planning statement reads: “The redevelopment of this site with a block of student flats offers the opportunity to use the site for dense development which is desirable for locations close to the railway station and city centre; especially on brownfield sites.

“It also provides the opportunity to construct a building that visually addresses the corner in an interesting way and enhance the setting of the St George’s Conservation Area.

“It provides the opportunity to make a small contribution towards meeting the city’s housing need.”
