New Street Station to get new public art

NETWORK Rail is to brighten up the entrance to Birmingham’s new-look New Street Station with the installation of a new piece of public artwork.

The new mural will be installed on the precipice at the corner of Pinfold Lane and Navigation Street, diagonally opposite the station’s new entrance.

The panel will help to obscure the view down on to the tracks and platforms, while improving the appearance of the corner, which is currently being used as a makeshift taxi rank.

The application coincides with the announcement that trams from the Midland Metro will begin running to the station from next month.

Network Rail has submitted a planning application to Birmingham City Council seeking permission to install the new panel.
