Independent operator buys three-star Lichfield hotel

AN INDEPENDENT hotel group has bought a three-star hotel in Lichfield to add to its existing three properties.
Sutton Coldfield-based Webb Hotel Group has bought the Cathedral Lodge, which was previously called The Little Barrow, for an undisclosed sum.
The group, which generates £14m a year through its hotel and travel operations, already has three hotels – Moor Hall Hotel & Spa in Sutton Coldfield, The George Hotel in Lichfield and The Gables Hotel in Falfield, near Bristol.
It plans to rebrand the property as The Cathedral Hotel and begin improvements to the hotel in the new year.
“We are delighted to have added the Cathedral Lodge Hotel to our group, as it has huge potential,” said Angela Burns, chief executive of The Webb Group. “We are really excited about getting to know the team and welcoming everyone over the busy Christmas and New Year period.”
The acquisition of the 36-bedroom hotel has been supported by a funding package from the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Ian Morgan, relationship director at the Royal Bank of Scotland added: “This latest acquisition is a great move for The Webb Hotel Group and expands their presence in the Midlands’ hotel sector.”
