Council sells headquarters to mystery buyer

Rushcliffe Borough Council says it has sold its headquarters on Pavilion Road – but won’t reveal the buyer until September.
The Council took the decision in July 2015 to sell the Civic Centre – one of Nottingham’s most prominent landmarks – on a freehold basis, and move to new offices at the Rushcliffe Arena site.
At the Cabinet Meeting on 14 June, the Cabinet agreed to proceed with one of the offers and dispose of the Civic Centre as surplus to requirements.
The sale will be subject to vacant possession of the Council-occupied parts of the building.
The Council says the sale will go through by the end of March 2017.
In a statment, it said: “Once the Council has exchanged contracts with the purchaser and is in a position to share the name of the prospective purchaser, it will do so. We anticipate that this is likely to be by September 2016.”
In February FHP and Savills were instructed to market the 10-storey, 75,000 sq ft building, which was originally built as a hotel.
Phil Daniels of FHP said: “It has great potential subject to planning, to provide apartments, hotel, office, additional bar and restaurant units, accommodation for the over 55s or even student accommodation.”
