This week’s Top 10 stories: Back in the real world…

As the bun-fight in the Westminster village becomes increasingly desperate and all-consuming, it’s very easy to forget there’s a real world outside of the back-stabbing, resignations and downright mistruths told by those we’ve elected to run the country, but of course there is.

It gives us absolutely no pleasure at all to tell you that by far our best-read story this week was our breaking news this morning that Imogen Skirving, owner of Langar Hall Hotel had been killed after being hit by a car whilst on holiday in Menorca. In a week in which most commentators have been guilty of varying degrees as hyperbole, Imogen’s death is truly shocking. Our thoughts are with her family and friends today.

It seems you’re as tired of politicians as we are, because our second best-read tale outlines the fact that Jet2.com has announced its biggest ever winter programme from East Midlands Airport, with more than 175,000 seats available between 30th October 2016 and 25th March 2017. As freedom of movement has been debated at length this week, then we guess you can call this ironic.

In third is the news that Nottingham Forest has appointed a new manager – sorry, “head coach”. Philippe Montanier joins Forest after managing Rennes for three years. Before that he was at Real Sociedad, Valenciennes and Boulogne. Good luck to him – he’ll need it…
