Plans revealed for 56 new studio flats in Nottingham

A planning application has gone forward to Nottingham City Council to build 56 studio flats that will be used as either serviced accommodation or student flats.

Steven Singh of Saint Marks Property Co. wants to demolish the existing buildings and develop the flats on 12-14 St Marks Street in Nottingham city centre.

The proposal outlines 56 one-bedroom flats in a building rising six-storeys. If it gets the go-ahead, the scheme will sit next to a scheme on neighbouring Curzon Street for 198 residential units that is already under construction and being developed by Globalcove. This development is scheduled to be completed in summer of 2017.

A design and access statement in support of the planning application reads: “The proposal for studio apartments on St Marks Street will continue the contemporary use
now established within the area. The proximity to the city centre ensures access to both
transport links and pedestrian routes to the Higher Education centres and social spots.

“The precedent has been set for refurbishments and newbuilds of all types, sizes and scales, whilst the wider streets are beginning to have a safer feel as the empty buildings and plots are brought back into use.”
