Forest and Derby legend to auction items from private collection

John McGovern

Football memorabilia from Scottish football legend John McGovern’s private collection is now available via John Pye Auctions.

The online auction, which is now live, will see nine rare lots go under the hammer and fans have until midday on 7 December to secure a piece of football history.

John McGovern, who is best known for helping Derby County FC win its first ever league championship in 1971/72 and captaining the Nottingham Forest FC side that won the European Cup twice under the management of Brian Clough, is considered one of the greatest midfielders of all time and was recently inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

The auction features McGovern’s Derby County FC league one division winners medal from 1971/72, his shirt and shorts from the 1971/72 championship season, league two winners medal from 1968/69, Texaco Cup winner’s trophy from 1971/72 in its original box, and a ceramic money box celebrating the second division championship season in 1968/69, amongst a range of other items from his collection.

Sheldon Miller, business development director at John Pye Auctions, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer football fans this fantastic opportunity to secure items once owned, or indeed once worn, by the icon John McGovern.

“McGovern is a football legend and it’s brilliant that the public can now share in his footballing success by taking home one of his medals or an item of clothing worn during his many successful seasons.

“I anticipate that this auction will be extremely popular because of the strong and loyal following McGovern has had throughout his career in the East Midlands and these would make fantastic Christmas presents!”.
