1-2, 1-2, mic check!

Becky Valentine and Victoria Green of Spenbeck will be on stage again this year

Sound and lighting are arguably two of the most important aspects of Nottingham Hot Property (NHP) – if you can’t see or hear the performers then there really isn’t much of a show!

Therefore, this week we sat down with Sam Lenord from JnS Sound & Lighting Hire, to find out what goes on behind the flashing lights in preparation for Nottingham’s hottest property and construction event of the year.

How many years have you been supporting Hot Property?

This is our third year controlling the sound for NHP. We’ve had the pleasure of witnessing the event get bigger and better year on year, and we love seeing the event unfold from a behind the scenes perspective.

What does your role involve?

Aside from keeping Kate – the vocal coach and coordinator – happy, our most important role is, of course, making sure that everyone can hear the music! After all the hard work everyone has put into their performances, it’s important that they can be heard loud and clear by the 800 strong crowd!

How do you prepare in the run up to the event?

Every year is different, therefore it’s crucial we adapt and we get to know who is playing what, in what order and any weird and wonderful instruments they are going to bring on stage. We make ourselves familiar with each performance so we know exactly how they should sound.

On the day however, you’ll find me running around with an iPad, ensuring that everything sounds great and the kit is working properly. It’s really satisfying to see it all come together successfully.

What is your favourite thing about Hot Property?

Often in this industry we come across lots of artists and musicians who are such prima donnas, but at NHP everyone is nice and supportive which makes my job as easy as it can be. Not forgetting the reason we’re all here, to raise vital funds for chosen charity so you can’t help but enjoy the evening knowing it’s for such a great cause. Bring on NHP 2019!

The sponsors for this year’s event include Pulse Consult and Savills as headline sponsors as well as: B&M Installations, Couch Perry Wilkes, CPMG, Faithful + Gould, Fraser Brown, Samclo Construction and Shakespeare Martineau. Joining these are Invest in Nottingham, the event’s media partner The Business Desk, PR agency Cartwright Communications, design agency Blimey Creative and design and print agency Ginger Root.
