A46 closed after multiple vehicle incident

The A46 is closed in both directions in Leicestershire between the A50 (Groby) and the A6 (Birstall) following a multiple vehicle collision.

All emergency services are working at the scene in a response being led by Leicestershire Police.

Highways England says a diversion route is in place:

Northbound:

From A46(T) Anstey junction, take the exit for the A5630 south-east into Leicester. At the A563 Leicester Ring Road roundabout, take the A563 east and follow for 3km heading straight over the three roundabouts on the route. Follow signs for the A6 north at the large, grade-separated junction with A563/A6030 and take the first exit off the roundabout. Follow the A6 until it rejoins the A46(T) at the Wanlip Junction.

Southbound:

From the A46 Birstall take the A6 southbound to its junction with the A583. Take the 5th Exit and join the A583 southbound and follow until its junction with the A50. Exit the A50 and travel north west to its junction with the A46. Rejoin the A46 southbound.
