Weekender: Top office snacks revealed

It’s a conversation that sparks debate in the office time and time again – which crisps are the best? Do you prefer Cadbury Dairy Milk over Galaxy? Well, now the arguments can be finally put to bed, with a new pyramid ranking that claims to be the ultimate list of our favourite snacks.

The list has been devised from data taken from more than 60 snack rankings from news sites, brands, Twitter and Reddit to have the final say on the top six crisps, chocolate bars and biscuits.

Walkers Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli bagged first place for crisps – and Brits are also loving Quavers and Monster Munch Pickled Onion. When it comes to the age-old debate over Dairy Milk or Galaxy, Cadbury bagged the honour, closely followed by its Wispa bar in third place.

But the rankings are still expected to cause controversy, with Jaffa Cakes ranked the second best biscuit. Introduced in the UK in 1927, the sweet treat continues to spark a heated debate over whether it’s a biscuit or a cake.

The rankings were created by Loughborough-based e-learning company DeltaNet International after its own staff struggled to agree over their favourite junk food to bring into the office.

Managing director Darren Hockley said: “I’m quite partial to a bar of Dairy Milk myself, especially as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, but I know some of my colleagues would disagree with my choice.

“We decided to end the debate by analysing dozens of other pyramid-style rankings to provide an ultimate list that no-one could argue with. I’ll be making sure to refer others back to the rankings whenever my favourite snack is questioned again!”

Perkbox’s 2018 UK Workplace Stress Survey found that work is the most common cause of stress for UK adults. Sleep loss (65%) is the most prevalent impact that stress has on UK adults, followed by experiencing anxiety (47%), disrupted concentration (37%), comfort eating (35%) and being less productive at work (32%).

And when it comes to our eating habits, less than a quarter (24%) of British office workers always take their lunch break. Meanwhile, 34% work through their lunch every single day. And half of those surveyed said they regularly stay at work late because their colleagues are doing the same, meaning they could also be eating their dinner at their desk.

Hockley added: “While the rankings were a bit of fun, we can’t ignore the fact that workplace stress is a very serious issue, and can lead to bad eating habits, amongst other things. It’s really important that we can learn to identify the symptoms of stress within ourselves as it may present differently from person to person, and understand what good stress management is and how to achieve it.”
