‘Vast majority’ of 1,700 jobs to be saved at stricken civils contractor

The “vast majority” of the 1,700 people employed by stricken Nottinghamshire civils contractor nmcn will keep their jobs, according to an internal document sent to staff.

The sale of the firm’s Infrastructure, Plant Transport & Accommodation, Telecoms and Water divisions is expected to complete before the weekend, say reports in trade publication Construction Enquirer.

nmcn has appointed Grant Thornton as administrator after its board decided that the firm was no longer a going concern.

A document seen by Construction Enquirer that was sent by chief executive Lee Marks to staff said: “These potential sales will secure the jobs of the vast majority of our employees as your current employment with nmcn will transfer to the new organisation under TUPE, with the interested parties taking on certain people and projects.

“Whilst this is positive news for the majority of our people, I understand that these are worrying times for everyone.”

A spokesperson for Grant Thornton said: “I can confirm we are working with the directors of the group and parties who have expressed an interest in the business in an attempt to maximise the position for its employees and creditors. We will provide a further update on these discussions when we are able to.”
