We asked Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL, founder and chairman of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, what it meant to pick up the Investment prize at last year’s awards and where the company is headed next.
“Morningside was delighted to win the Investment Award at the 2021 East Midlands Business Masters Awards, as the company has a rich history of innovation and investing in research & development and continuous improvement, which stretches back more than 30 years.
“Morningside’s journey began in the early 1990s when the company was founded on an entrepreneur’s dream to ‘make quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world.’
“For Morningside business success is synonymous with ‘giving back’, and the company has a particular focus on supporting educational causes, which help prepare young people for the world of work and promote skills. The company also supports causes associated with sports, healthy living and team work, as well as UK and international community support for causes connected to health and mental health.
“Examples of this include being the Named Partner of the 3,000 capacity Morningside Arena, Leicester, home to the UK basketball champions, the Leicester Riders. As part of the agreement, Morningside regularly gifts the Arena’s conference facility space for free to local charities and good causes, so they can raise funds for their many community focussed activities.
“Another great example is supporting the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership’s (LLEP) annual Careers Speed Networking event, which sees 300 students from 30 local schools gain valuable careers advice from 150 local employers. This is the largest careers event of its kind in the East Midlands.
“At Morningside, the team never stands still, and has been working hard to grow revenue by double-digits for the year ending 2021.
“This has been achieved because of the prolonged and significant investment in R&D, which has led to Morningside releasing a number of new medicines in the UK, which have gained market share.
“The business is also expanding internationally by registering products in individual countries, which offer an opportunity to grow into the public and private sectors there. New product registrations over the past year include in Canada, Australia, the Nordic States and Germany. Morningside is also in the process of registering products in China, India, New Zealand, the Middle East, Israel, Malta, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago and Hong Kong.
“Through investment in research & development, as well as innovations in infrastructure and processes, the business plans to continue to grow rapidly in the UK and internationally.”
The deadline for entries is 8th July 2022. Good luck!
