People: Poppleston Allen; Willmott Dixon

(L-R): Carl Weston, Tracey Robottom & Joe Harvey

Poppleston Allen has hired a new associate solicitor and announced a pair of partner promotions.

Joe Harvey joins the Nottingham-based licensing and gambling law firm from Elliot Mather LLP, where he spent over 14 years as a senior associate solicitor and higher courts advocate.

Meanwhile, Tracey Robottom and Carl Weston have become the firm’s first non-lawyer partners.

Practice manager Robottom is the longest serving member of the Poppleston Allen team, having been with the company for over 28 years.

Weston is promoted to partner from his role as head of marketing and business development.

He has more than 25 years’ B2B marketing experience.

Managing partner Lisa Sharkey said: “We are delighted that Joe has joined us as an associate solicitor. His extensive background in criminal law and familiarity with interviews under caution, prosecution, defence work and hearings make him an ideal solicitor for contentious licensing work; an area where we are seeing increased levels of work.

“I am also delighted to welcome both Tracey and Carl to the partnership. It is a testament to Tracey’s abilities and commitment. She is involved in so many aspects of the firm that it feels like she is the glue that holds it all together. Carl joined us in 2015 quickly establishing himself and spearheading major developments in technology, business development, brand identity and client care services.

“All three will play important roles in the firm as we continue to grow.”

Willmott Dixon has appointed a dedicated head of sustainability for the Midlands.

Maggie Hall, who brings more than 20 years’ experience to the firm, will lead its Now or Never strategy across the region.

The contractor has set a number of sustainability targets which it aims to meet by 2030, including achieving operational net zero across all new build and refurbishment projects, being a zero-carbon company without any offsetting and improving more than 100,000 lives through its social value commitments.

Hall, who previously worked for Vodafone, Cable & Wireless and Eurovia UK, said: “Sustainability is an ever-evolving concept – especially in the construction sector – and net-zero targets across the industry are constantly changing. However, what has been immediately clear to me is that Willmott Dixon has a clear approach to where it wants to be and how it will get there.

“It is encouraging to see how many people in the business are already actively engaged in making Now or Never a success, and that a collaborative approach with our team, clients and consultants is going to be essential in helping us achieve the targets we’ve set.”
