Administrators called in at environmental and compliance consultancy

Ensafe Consultants, the Northamptonshire-headquartered environmental and health and safety services company, has collapsed into administration.

Ensafe – a trading name of Challen Commercial Investigations Limited – employs more than 175 people at its offices in Daventry, Glasgow, Manchester, Ripponden, Plymouth, Burton and Dundalk.

According to a statement published on the company’s website, Greg Palfrey of Evelyn Partners LLP and William Turner of Verulam Advisory Ltd were appointed joint administrators of Challen Commercial Investigations on 19 October 2022.

Ensafe opened its Burton site in August last year following the acquisition of geo-environmental consultancy Pam Brown Associates.

Incorporated in 1997, the company offers a wide range of asbestos, health and safety, geo-environmental, air quality and training and compliance services.

As we went to press it was unclear what caused Ensafe to collapse.

The firm’s accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021 – its most recent accounts published on Companies House – offer little clue as to what might have caused it to call in administrators.

Ensafe turned over £10.75m in 2021 – roughly equivalent to the previous year’s figure – although it did post a loss of £654,567.
