On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

(L-R): Mackenzie Williams, Ted Spencer and Rachel Knight

UHY Hacker Young has bolstered its Nottingham office with a trio of new hires.

Trainee chartered accountants Mackenzie Williams, Rachel Knight and Ted Spencer will work with the top 20 firm’s audit and accounts team to help support its growing base of corporate and private clients across the region.

Williams, who holds a degree in mathematics from Loughborough University, said: “UHY has been very good in supporting our learning and understanding that everyone has a different grasp of knowledge before they start. I have been able to develop my ‘soft skills’ through training, which has increased my confidence and adaptability to different situations.

“I am enjoying seeing the company function and being able to socialise together as a close team – I recently attended a ball for The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and will be watching an ice hockey game together with the team soon. it’s also nice to join a large firm that gives back to the community through charitable causes.”

Knight joins UHY three years after graduating with a degree in criminology from Nottingham Trent University.

She said: “Accounting is a well-respected career choice and I’m ready to develop my skills in the financial sector.

“Becoming accustomed to accounting terminology feels like learning a new language and I’m continuing to improve all the time as I undertake my tasks, including documenting financial statements, understanding assurance and examination practice.”

Spencer graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in business management.

He said: “UHY is the perfect place to start my career as an auditor because the firm operates in the mid-tier market, allowing me to develop in-depth knowledge of the business world by working with people from companies of varying sectors and size.

“The opportunity to study for my chartered accountant qualification (ACA) was another motivator – I have learned a lot so far about the key concepts of accounting and the responsibilities that auditors hold. I have also enjoyed moving to a new city and getting to meet new people.”

James Simmonds, partner at UHY Nottingham, added: “We were incredibly impressed by Mackenzie, Rachel and Ted when recruiting our latest cohort of graduates, who all show great ambition to develop as chartered accountant trainees at UHY.

“Our talented trainees form a vital component of our account teams to ensure that we continue to provide the best service to clients across the East Midlands.”
