A leading Asian supermarket chain has acquired a 7,260 sq ft unit in Beeston town centre.

Oriental Mart will move into the former Iceland unit on High Road following an internal refurbishment of the premises.

The new store, which will employ ten people, is expected to open at the end of March 2023.

Yan Liu from Oriental Mart said: “Beeston seemed like the ideal place for us to have a new store, with the tram being here, new independent businesses and a cinema opening up, as well as the ever-growing University of Nottingham with its international students. We’ve seen a shift in Nottingham becoming a more student city in the last 15 to 20 years.

“We hadn’t been actively searching but when the opportunity arose, we thought it would be the next step to expand our company. Ross and Innes England have been great – keeping me updated along the way and actively resolving any issues.

“We’re really looking forward to getting up and running and providing Beeston and its surrounding areas with good-quality Southeast Asian food produce.”

Innes England sealed the deal to bring Oriental Mart to the Nottinghamshire town.

Ross Whiting, associate director at Innes England, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this property on favourable terms for Oriental Mart, which has been a long-standing client and is renowned for providing high quality products to a growing market.

“We dealt with the whole process from start to finish – from being given a brief, sourcing a property, negotiating terms and dealing with the legal elements, to handing over the keys.

“Beeston has long been a popular area for students, which we know is a key target market for Oriental Mart, so the location and scale of the premises made sense for all parties. We are continuing to actively look for properties on behalf of our portfolio of clients and welcome any enquiries to that end.”

The landlord was represented by FHP Property Consultants.

Oliver Marshall, director at FHP, said: “We were very pleased to represent the landlord in this deal, working alongside Ross and the team at Innes England to bring Oriental Mart into Beeston. It is a thriving town with a busy student population, making it a great location for the new occupants.”
