Law firm boosts family team with hat-trick of hires

Nelsons has bolstered its family law team in Nottingham with a trio of hires.

Emma Stamp and Jessica Rayns have both joined the East Midlands law firm as associates, while Polly Sanders joins as a paralegal.

Partner and solicitor Emma Davies, who joined Nelsons in 2009 and became head of the family law team in 2021, said: “Nelsons’ family law offering has always had a strong presence in Nottingham, but interest increased significantly and has continued since the pandemic when family relationships were put under additional pressure. We have also seen more enquiries following the introduction of the no-fault divorce law in 2022. It’s therefore been a priority to look at expanding the team so that we can continue to deliver for our clients.

“The care team has been extremely busy and this area requires specific knowledge of working with local authorities and its processes, which Jessica has fantastic experience of.

“Emma has a wealth of experience in the financial aspects of divorce – an area we have been quite heavily focused on for clients and she’ll also be assisting our team in meeting the demand for our private children law services.”

Stamp said: “Working in family law is hugely rewarding – I particularly enjoy the people side of what I do, and the mix of office and court-based work. I am looking forward to learning more under Emma Davies’ guidance.

“The culture and benefits offered at Nelsons were for a real draw for me – although there were other opportunities, I wanted to wait for a role at Nelsons. I have a varied and interesting caseload and am already learning a lot from the team through its collaborative approach. I’m excited to put down roots here in Nottingham, and feel I have a clear career path and can grow with the firm.”

Rayns added: “Care is an essential service offered by Nelsons to support local authorities in dealing with child social care issues. I was looking for a new opportunity, and I really admired Nelsons’ forward-thinking approach and positive workplace environment. My work is personal and can be complex – but the team around me is incredibly supportive and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone.”
