£250m roundabout scheme given the go-ahead

How the A38 will look at Little Eaton

Plans to reduce traffic congestion at three bottlenecks on the A38 near Derby have been given the green light by National Highways.

These plans were first approved by National Highways in January 2021 and given the recent road closures and traffic issues between Alewras and Derby on August 14, these plans are not unexpected.

The next step is for contractor BAM to receive approval to start the £250m construction project, which includes major upgrades to the Kingsway, Markeaton, and Little Eaton roundabouts.

After a legal challenge and a high court ruling, the application was thoroughly reviewed again, resulting in yesterday’s approval.

The A38 Derby Junctions project aims to enhance travel efficiency and decrease congestion by enhancing the following roundabouts – Kingsway roundabout at the junction of A38 and A511, Markeaton roundabout at the junction of A38 and A52 and Little Eaton roundabout at the junction of A38 and A61.

There is a six-week window for parties to express their intention to legally contest the decision.
