Family-run bakery on the brink of administration

A family-run baker based in Derbyshire is on the brink of administration, TheBusinessDesk.com can reveal.

Jacksons the Bakers, which is based in Clay Cross, has posted a second notice of intention (NOI) to appoint administrators via law firm Irwin Mitchell – 11 days after filing a first.

Jacksons was set up by Cyril Jackson in 1944 when it sold war-rationed bread. The firm is currently run by Phil and Emmajane Allen.

The firm has town centre shop and also supplies wholesalers, schools, cafes and restaurants.

According to its latest accounts, made up to the end of September last year, Jacksons employed around 55 people.

The NOI is designed to protect the company from creditor action while it tries to find a way forward.
