Former ambulance station transformed into housing scheme

Former Syston ambulance station

Plans for the former Barkby Firs Ambulance Station on Melton Road, Syston, to be turned into a housing estate have been approved – despite objections from local residents regarding privacy and increased traffic.

The developer, Anil Hindocha, received permission to build 26 homes on the brownfield land.

Charnwood Borough Council has said the application is “refreshing”.

This development will offer two to five bedrooms and arranged in two small cul-de-sacs.

The site will also include a total of 3,466 sq m of green open space.

The property was put up for sale in 2014, at this point the ambulance station had already been demolished, leaving the land empty.

The approval for this project is subject to a condition as the planning team is consulting with legal experts to refine the phrasing of one of the planning conditions.

At the recent meeting, council members voted unanimously in favour of adopting the recommendations made by the officers.
