Updated plans for 50-home estate in Shepshed

New details have emerged about a 50-home estate in Shepshed, which received approval last year.

The plans were endorsed by Charnwood Borough Council’s plans committee in September 2022 for fields south of the A512 Ashby Road Central.

Despite reservations from Shepshed Town Council, labelling the site as a “poor location for a housing development,” and concerns raised by Ward Councillor Robin Popley regarding traffic problems, the majority of councillors voted in favour of the development.

The initial application was submitted by GC No 37 Ltd, but the latest plans for the scheme have now been proposed by the property company Places for People.

According to them, the inclusion of green spaces and tree planting in the estate will enhance the site’s National Forest character.

This approach aims to integrate woodland features into suburban areas, facilitating a seamless transition between the wooded environment and the residential spaces.

The records also indicate that the development will comprise 12 two-bedroom homes, 22 three-bedroom properties, and 16 four-bedroom residences.

Positioned south of Shepshed, the nearly two-and-a-half-acre site will primarily be accessed from the A512, a road with a speed limit of 40mph.

To accommodate residents, the plan includes a total of 120 parking spaces, with two spaces allocated for two- and three-bedroom homes and three spaces for four-bedroom homes. Additionally, four visitor parking spots will be provided.

As per the application, 20 of the homes are designated as ‘affordable’, while the remaining 30 will follow a shared ownership model.

Interested parties can submit comments or objections regarding the updated plans through the council’s planning portal until Monday, December 18.
