Plans for almost 200 apartments near Nottingham railway station voted through

How the scheme will look

Plans to build an eight-storey residential scheme just yards away from Nottingham railway station have been given the green light.

The scheme, by Rainier Developments, will bring forward a new development on a brownfield site on land surrounded by Crocus Street, Newthorpe Street and Meadows Way after it was voted through by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee this week.

It will house some 191 apartments made up of a mixture of one- and two-bedroom flats.

Nottingham City Council’s planning committee will vote on the plans when it sits next Wednesday (March 20). The scheme has been recommended for approval.

Rainier says the scheme, named Waterway House, will contribute to the city’s overall housing stock mix and demand for units of this size.

There will be a small number of residents’ car parking bays, including disabled parking bays and EV charging points, with access from Crocus Street.

Rainier bought the land from Nottingham City Council last year.

At the time, Will Blacker, land director at Rainier Developments, said: “The area around Nottingham train station has been given a new lease of life in recent years via commercial, residential and student developments, and we are excited at the prospect of being able to add to this by helping to potentially transform an unused brownfield site.

“We will now use our extensive planning expertise to apply for planning permission for a modern redevelopment to support not only the wider regeneration of the area, but also the ongoing demand for homes.

“As a company we are keen in investing in sites that we know have the potential to enrich communities, such as this one in Nottingham, and we are actively seeking other sites nationally.
