Plans revealed to turn former theme park into £65m leisure hub

A theme park that has been laid derelict since it closed in 2016 could become a hotel and casino.

Plans submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council reveal £65m plans by a group of private investors to transform the former Pleasure Island Theme Park in Cleethorpes into a new leisure hub.

The project will include two hotels housing around 222 rooms and an on-site casino, plus 272 holiday lodges, retail outlets and a Costa drive-thru.

The plans will come up against complaints from Natural England as the site is home to several bird species. The organisation has objected to the scheme going ahead.

North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee will vote on the plans over coming weeks.
