On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Nick Freer

Leicestershire-based health and safety risk management firm, Finch Consulting, has announced the appointment of chartered chemical engineer Nick Freer.

With over 10 years of experience in the oil, gas and chemical industry developing process safety and asset management for multiple chemical sites, Freer will be joining Finch as a senior consultant to help build their process safety capability.

In his new role, he will be developing the process safety capability to support the existing portfolio of clients and develop great working relationships with any new clients.

He said “Finch is a great company to develop my skills and expertise in Process Safety. I will help support clients in multiple industries and they are a great team to work with who will give me extra support where required. I want to develop my skills within functional safety and becoming an Expert Witness where I feel I can really benefit multiple clients in making their sites/processes safer.”

Dom Barraclough, managing director, said: “With the addition of Nick and the support of our experienced team, we are poised to seize the many opportunities in the medium-sized or mid-market process safety market and expect these to also create opportunities in health and safety and asset management. We are excited to build a robust process safety capability from the ground up – in a Finch way – and we look forward to the positive effect this will have for our clients and on our growth.”

Liz Darlison MBE, chief executive of Mesothelioma UK, has been appointed as a new deputy lieutenant for Leicestershire.

Darlison is one of four new deputy lieutenants, joining Rachel Tidmarsh, Ian Mattioli MBE and Graham Smith.

The Lord-Lieutenant is the official representative of His Majesty the King for the City and County of Leicester. Deputy Lieutenants undertake a wide range of duties and engagements including representing the Lord-Lieutenant and participating in Citizenship Ceremonies, attending remembrance services and parades, and helping to assess local organisations nominated for awards and honours.

Darlison said: “This is such an honour for me to be commissioned to support the work of the Lord-Lieutenant in my home county of Leicestershire. Although Mesothelioma UK is a charity with a national reach, we started our journey in Leicestershire and our UK headquarters are in Mountsorrel so we’re still very much at the heart of the local community.”

Mike Kapur OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire said: “The Lieutenancy has enjoyed long-standing links with the uniformed services and with local community and voluntary organisations of Leicester and Leicestershire. These links are further enhanced following the appointments of Liz and the other very deserving candidates.”
