1,200 new homes approved in Leicestershire village

Plans for over 1,200 new homes in Melton Mowbray have been approved, following the expansion of the town with the Melton North Sustainable Neighbourhood project.
The development will include new community facilities, such as a sports pitch, allotments and land set aside for a potential new school.
Local services will also receive nearly £30m in investment as part of the plan.
The scheme, which has been in the works since 2019, is a collaboration between Melton Borough Council and developers Taylor Wimpey, Barwood Land and William Davis. The planning committee gave its approval on 10 December.
The development will be spread across three sites.
Site A will see Taylor Wimpey build up to 480 homes on land south of Spinney Farm, with space for a possible primary school.
Site B, brought forward by Barwood Land, will feature up to 575 homes, with additional facilities including a shop, community venue or health centre, as well as a sports pitch and play areas.
Site C, developed by William Davis, will include up to 175 homes, allotments, a community orchard, and play spaces.
Of the homes across all three sites, 7.5% will be affordable housing.
While the project has garnered support, there were concerns raised, particularly around road safety and the impact on local public services.
