Latest images released of former hotel site’s transformation

Latest images have been released showing how a former Newquay hotel will be transformed into new homes.

‘Hotel California’ closed its doors more than three years ago and will now be demolished to make way for 20 apartments and four houses.

Property developers Acorn Property Group has completed on the deal to buy the hotel and site.

The project offers views over the Rivel Gannel, Penpol Creek and the surrounding Crantock countryside. It will feature 20 apartments and four houses with direct river access.

Both the houses and apartments are designed to maximise natural light, with oversized windows and fully glazed doors opening to south-facing views over the estuary. Each apartment includes a private terrace or balcony, along with access to communal gardens.

Acorn’s Group design director Julian Hampson said: “Gannel Waterside represents a unique fusion of sustainable architecture and luxury, balancing form and function.

“With expansive communal gardens, south-facing views, and easy access to the tranquil waters of the River Gannel, the site is designed not just as a place to live but as a sanctuary for residents who want to immerse themselves in Cornwall’s serene landscape.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025.
