Historic hotel has new owner following closure

An historic Salisbury hotel which closed last summer has new owners.

Savills represented Claverton Estates Limited on the sale of the Cathedral Hotel to a local investor for an undisclosed amount.

The hotel is a mid-terraced property which includes a pub on the ground floor and first floor and hotel with 22 bedrooms on the third and fourth floors.

The new owners plan to make a significant investment to bring the hotel up to modern standards including a roof top terrace with panoramic views of the Salisbury skyline – subject to planning permission.

As the building is listed Grade 2 there will be comprehensive discussions with the city’s conservation officers to ensure the hotel’s many historic features – including a stunning central staircase – are retained and sensitively restored.

The new owner, who wishes to remain private, first became aware of The Cathedral Hotel as a teenager when it was the home of Salisbury Jazz Club every Friday evening.

The Cathedral Hotel occupies a central location at the western end of Milford Street close to Guildhall Square and Market Place.

Chris Bickle, director in the licenced leisure team at Savills, said: “We a delighted to secure new owners for The Cathedral Hotel which has been closed since July 2022.

“The new owners have exciting plans to bring this property back into hospitality use for the benefit for the local community.

“The sale reinforces the demand for commercial assets with strong underlying property fundamentals in the South West.”

Woolley & Wallis represented the purchaser.
