Care home to be demolished to pave way for apartment scheme

Planning permission has been secured for the demolition of a care home in Moseley which will pave the way for a luxury apartment scheme.

MIA Property Group is behind the plans for 37-43 Wake Green Road, which include the demolition of the former Trident Care Home and the construction of a three to four-storey replacement with space for 36 flats.

A spokesman for MIA Property Group said: “I was brought up in this area I am privileged to be assisting people of Moseley to produce such a fantastic scheme and delighted for the support by Birmingham City Council”

A council document said: “After significant amendment and improvement secured by officers, the scheme would now be acceptable in terms of its design, amenity, highways, landscape and ecology considerations.

“It would contribute towards the city’s housing requirements. Therefore the proposal would constitute sustainable development.”

A statement submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: “The site is located within an established mature residential suburb and comprises of a derelict site and building in contrast to the well maintained surrounding properties within this area of Moseley.

“The building is itself in poor condition and considered uneconomic to reinstate having lain empty for a number of years.”

Similar planning permission of new development of 32 units in Stratford Road, Shirley was given to MIA Property Group by Solihull MBC of a former redundant police station in April 2018.
