£17m flood defence plans submitted

A scheme to improve flood defences in Birmingham, which would cost £17m, have been announced.

The Environment Agency has submitted plans for the scheme, which is expected to help protect more than 900 homes and businesses in Bromford and Castle Vale.

It will involve raising flood walls or constructing new ones along the River Tame, which flows near The Fort Shopping Park, BBC News reported.

If approved, the work is expected to get under way late in the summer and could take a year to complete.
