Wall Street investment bank drives off with £140m purchase of world-famous golf resort

The Belfry

The Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs is to become the new owner of The Belfry, one of the world’s best-known golfing resorts.

A property fund run by Goldman has pipped bond fund manager Pimco as the preferred bidder for the Warwickshire hotel and golf courses, Sky News reports.

The purchase price is expected to be in the region of £140m.

The Belfry’s current owner, KSL Capital Partners, has been trying for some time to offload the 550-acre site, which it bought in 2012.

The venue, near Sutton Coldfield, has hosted four Ryder Cups on its Brabazon course.

In 2019 the resort unveiled plans for a major redevelopment, with KSL saying it wanted to add a further 144 guest-rooms in a new building on the site, a 600-seat ballroom and banqueting facility, leisure club and spa.
