Brewery site with full planning for resi development on the market

The former Bass Brewery building in Burton upon Trent is on the market with full planning permission for residential development.

Commercial agents Bond Wolfe are marketing the freehold property, which was constructed in 1864, for offers based on £2.95m.

The historic former brewery site at 1-2 The Maltings, Wetmore Road, Burton upon Trent, has consent for conversion to 143 apartments across two detached buildings.

James Mattin, managing director agency at Bond Wolfe, said: “We are delighted to bring such an historic pair of buildings to the market and, with full planning permission and listed building consent this provides a developer with a wonderful opportunity to breathe new life into The Maltings.”

The site is next to a completed residential development at 3 The Maltings.

The proposed development includes 79,261 sq ft of living space with 103 parking spaces and five for motorcycles.

The permission for residential development follows a fire in 1978 which destroyed many original features, and the subsequent conversion to office use in 1989.

Mattin added: “Burton upon Trent is well known for its industrial brewing history and is home to the National Brewery Centre and Museum.

“With Birmingham, and attractions such as Alton Towers, Donington Park Racing Circuit, Uttoxeter Racecourse, Drayton Manor Park & Zoo, historic Lichfield and the Potteries, all within roughly 30 minutes, it is rightly recognised for its excellent location.

“We are anticipating strong interest from developers.”
