Watchdog to investigate building materials group merger

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating the proposed acquisition of one of the UK’s largest air conditioning specialists.

Warwick materials supplier the Wolseley Group signed an agreement in January to acquire Glasgow-headquartered Kooltech, as it looked to increase its portfolio of suppliers and distributors across the UK.

Family-owned Kooltech, which employs more than 100 people across seven locations, would operate as a standalone business within the Wolseley Group once the deal is completed.

The CMA however, is considering if the merger will create a substantial lessening of competition. It’s now inviting comments from any interested party, before it reaches a phase one decision.
