Green urban oasis with 57-storey landmark proposed

A screening request application has been submitted to Birmingham City Council, for what could become the city’s tallest tower.
Planning consultants at Carney Sweeney lodged the proposal to see if an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required for the development at 2-10 The Wharf, 16 Bridge Street, near Centenary Square.
Plans for three towers of around 14, 41 and 57 storeys will feature a “parkland landscape” set along the canal. In designs created by Planit, the scheme is hoping to create a “truly biodiverse and immersive landscape softening the canal edge”.
Proposals feature 12 units with residential and amenity space including a terrace with a canal-facing “sleek bar”, as well as a section set for a hotel.
The masterplan is set to be covered in green to “create an urban oasis, with routes carved through” and “substantial tree planting” to mitigate wind conditions and create sheltered pocket spaces.
The Wharf will be designed with a tiered landscape in order to provide “opportunities for greening at every level”.
