Poundland’s owner brings in advisers ahead of sale
Gordon Brothers has appointed an advisory firm to run a sale process for Poundland, with a formal auction expected to launch in the autumn.
According to Sky News, the appointment follows a pitch process among advisers held over the past week, and comes just two days after it emerged Gordon Brothers was exploring an exit from the Walsall-based retailer, which it bought from Pepco Group for a nominal €1 in July 2025.
Poundland now employs around 12,000 people across roughly 600 shops.
People close to the business have maintained its financial performance has improved since last year’s restructuring, though it remains unclear why Gordon Brothers would be seeking an exit so soon if that recovery is genuinely under way.
In January, the discounter hailed its turnaround progress in its first quarter, ending 28 December. It reported that EBITDA had risen to £17.3m, £8.4m ahead of the same period the prior year.
Poundland declined to comment.
It comes as Gordon Brothers separately pursues a bid for Harvey Nichols, having entered the race to acquire the loss-making luxury department store chain last month.
