The best food and drink to enjoy on Super Bowl Sunday

The 51st Super Bowl takes place this Sunday night, giving you the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the ‘special relationship’ we have with our friends over the pond and get involved with everything American for one night only. Taking place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, the New England Patriots will go head to head with the Atlanta Falcons and the halftime show will see Lady Gaga take to the stage for what will be an unforgettable performance.

If you’re having a Super Bowl party, try these food and drink options, but don’t forget the American flags and foam fingers, they are compulsory.

Drinks…

BudweiserBudweiser
Budweiser’s flagship light beer Bud Light is the NFL’s official sponsor. Unfortunately, although Bud Light is popular in America, it isn’t available in the UK. Therefore, good old Budweiser will have to do. Chances are, you have tried Budweiser at least once. If not, you ought to know that it is medium-bodied and has a honey aroma and a trace of citrus.

Anchor Steam Beer
Steam Beer, was born following the Gold Rush in the mid-1800s. The beer, which is created at one of the smallest breweries in the world in San Francisco, has a thick creamy head, a deep amber colour and an incredibly rich flavour.

Jersey Girl cocktail
A ‘Jersey Girl’ is simple, but is just as tasty. All you need is two ounces of vanilla vodka and four ounces of cream soda, which you can pick up in most supermarkets. Simply pour as much vodka as you like into a glass of cream soda and enjoy a refreshing taste with a slight kick to it.

Mountain Dew
Although Mountain Dew has been in the UK for a while, it is a very popular choice in the USA and has been around since way back in 1940. The citrus flavoured soft drink is available in most supermarkets and is the perfect drink to enjoy if alcohol on a Sunday night isn’t a sensible idea for you.

Super BowlLagunitas IPA
Lagunitas IPA is created in Northern California and is a well-rounded IPA, with a pinch of caramel malt barley that provides the richness that mellows out the twang of the hops. Luckily for you, the drink is also available in supermarkets right on your doorstep.

Pirate’s Float

Another cocktail that is perfect for an evening with the gang, especially if you are a rum fan. The cocktail is made up of spiced rum, the all-American root beer and cola, making it a sweet drink with a good kick to it. Root beer can often be found in a range of shops too.

Food…

nachosNachos
No sporting event would be the same without nachos. Team them up with a healthy dollop of guacamole, salsa and sour cream. If you’re brave, throw a few jalapenos on there too with cheese, or alternatively, try them loaded with mincemeat and salad.

Chilli Dogs
Go all-American this Super Bowl Sunday and enjoy some chilli dogs. They are essentially hot dogs, but just served with some sort of meat sauce on them, such as chilli con carne. However, it wouldn’t be as American if you didn’t throw on cheese, onions and mustard – enjoy.

Buffalo Wings
Invented back in 1964, the Buffalo wing is traditionally served hot alongside celery sticks and dips. If you like your food spicy though, add spices to your recipe and surprise your guests.

BurgersSliders
Sliders are essentially mini burgers, but make for great finger food at a Super Bowl party. Fill them with your meat of choice, cheese and salad and don’t forget a range of burger sauces, like French’s Classic Yellow Mustard.

Mozzarella Sticks

Mozzarella sticks are perfect for tucking into whilst you watch the game. They can be served with every sauce from ketchup, barbeque and honey mustard. Although they date back to medieval France, Mozzarella sticks with raspberry sauce are part of the regional cuisine of New York’s Capital District.

Loaded Fries
Loaded fries are basically fries covered in whatever takes your fancy. Popular options are cheese and grilled onions, chilli con carne, bacon and ranch sauce and even shepherd’s pie loaded fries – what will you choose?
